The Case for Wearing the Fun Bag

The Case for Wearing the Fun Bag

The Case for Wearing the Fun Bag

There’s a point when getting dressed where you have two choices.

You can choose the bag that goes with everything.

Or you can choose the one that makes everything better.

We’re firmly in the second camp.

Somewhere along the way, handbags became one of those things we were told should be sensible. Buy the neutral one. Choose something timeless. Make sure it works with every outfit you own.

All very practical.

Also, slightly boring.

Because sometimes the best thing you can add to jeans and a white blouse is leopard print, lilac and a completely unnecessary flash of pink.

Your bag doesn’t actually have to match

One of our favourite ways to wear colour is to stop worrying about whether everything technically “goes”.

A colourful bag against a simple outfit gives it somewhere to shine. Leopard print with florals works. Pink with green works. Blue with orange works.

And if two colours look as though they probably shouldn’t be together?

Even better.

The trick isn’t necessarily matching. It’s repeating a little colour somewhere, balancing something bold with something softer, or simply deciding you like it and wearing it anyway.

That’s enough.

The easiest way to wear more colour

You don’t need to suddenly replace your entire wardrobe with rainbow stripes.

Accessories are probably the easiest place to start.

Keep the cream blouse. Keep the denim. Keep the big cosy knit you wear constantly.

Then add the bag that makes absolutely no attempt to disappear.

That’s exactly what we love about Romy. She’s small enough for everyday, but definitely not interested in behaving like a sensible everyday bag. Colour, pattern, contrasting panels and those little details that make each version feel completely different.

A colourful bag can change an outfit without requiring any actual outfit planning, which, frankly, is ideal.

Clothes should still be fun

We spend quite a lot of time getting dressed over the course of a lifetime.

It seems a shame to take all the fun out of it.

Wear the leopard print on a Tuesday. Take the colourful bag to the supermarket. Mix the pink with the orange. Save absolutely nothing for “best”.

Because the things you love shouldn’t spend most of their lives waiting in a wardrobe for an appropriately exciting occasion.

And your bag?

It was never supposed to be the sensible one anyway. 🌈
